Sri Lanka One Day cricket team captain Upul Tharanga has been banned for the next two ODIs. Tharanga is accused of slow-over rate in the second ODI against India. Sri Lanka were three overs behind the over rate even when the second innings of the game was reduced to 47 overs due to rain. India had won the second one-day match 2.4 overs earlier and had achieved a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
This is the second time, in recent period, when a two match ban has been imposed on Upul Tharanga for slow over rate. Earlier, during the Champions Trophy, Tharanga was accused of slow over rate against South Africa. Now two changes, in the Sri Lankan team, have been made for the next one-day matches . Sri Lankan Test Team Captain Dinesh Chandimal has been included in the team. Apart from this, Lahiru Thirimane has also been included in the team for at least two one-dayers.
Thirimane was included in the team for the Test series against India but he could not play the game. He has been included in the team because the opener Dhanusha Gunathilaka got injured in the second ODI against India.
Dinesh Chandimal has been brought in the team but he will not captain the ODI team. Chamara Kapudegara will be the captain of the team against India in the third and fourth one-dayers. Kapudagara scored 40 runs against India in the second one-dayer. Kapudagara was the vice-captain of the team that is why he got the captaincy of the team.
